Public Speaking Speech

Hey! Remember ages ago when I said I was doing several public speaking competitions? Well, I've done them all (as far as I know anyway...) and I won the first one but didn't place in the second one. My topic was bullying and I thank everyone who helped me out with it. I thought you might like to see the finished product. I could be completely wrong and you might not care in the slightest. But I'm posting it anyway :) So, without further ado, my public speaking speech:

"Don't judge a book by it's cover" I'm sure you have all heard that statement before, but have you ever really given it much thought?

Good morning/afternoon chairperson, timekeeper and members of the audience, my topic today is bullying.

Everyday people are judged by what they look like or how they dress instead of their personality. Just because they dress differently, people tease them or stereotype them. For example, if they wear black? They're goth or emo. If they're a cheerleader? That automatically makes them a stupid ditz. It is a form of bullying.
Have you ever thought that perhaps someone wears black just because they like the colour? Or they're a cheerleader for sport instead of playing something like netball? So many people are outcast because of their religion, race, sexuality, disabilities or just because they don't wear the 'latest trend'. I think this needs to stop.

World war 2 was a good example of being an outcast and hurt just because of their religion. The Jews were sent to work hard or were executed because they they believed in something different to others. Or what about Muslims? The women cover their faces but if they go to some countries, they are forced to remove their veils. Has anyone ever thought that this may be an insult to THEIR religion?

Sexuality has been a major cause of bullying for years. Some people think it's 'wrong' to love someone of the same gender. If you're in love you're in love, right? Its not something you choose. So what's the harm in that? Just because someones gay, lesbian or bisexual it doesn't mean they don't have feelings.

Ah yes, looks. Something so many people get teased and bullied about everyday. If someones slightly overweight? They must be fat and not know what self control is. Or perhaps if they're really skinny they're anorexic. Have you ever thought about the people who starve themselves because someone called them fat even if they weren't? The people, girls most of the time but not always, who really are anorexic or bulimic as the result of bullying. Some people self-harm and starve themselves just because people say that they aren't perfect, well, NEWS FLASH nobody IS perfect.

The sad thing is, that these days, eating disorders are quite common. People are constantly called fat, or are told that they will never be pretty. But you wanna know the worst thing? After a while people start believing what others say and think that they have to change to fit in. Don't EVER change for someone else, be who you are! And if they don't like it, well too bad.

So many lives are lost each year because they were told they weren't right, whether it was because of their race, looks, religion, sexuality or so many other causes! It's all bullying in one way or another. And it NEEDS to stop.

Someone once said:
HER? The girl you just called fat? Shes been starving herself and has lost over 30 pounds. The boy you called stupid? He has a learning disability and studies over 4 hours a night. The girl you called ugly? She spends hours putting on makeup in hope that people will like her. The boy you tripped? He's abused at home. There's a lot more to peoples life than you'd ever understand. Actions speak louder than words....

School Plays, Sleepovers, Disney Movies, Nerf Guns, Trilby Hats and Fingerless Gloves

Eeeeeep! I am sooooo very very sorry for not updating!! Will you ever forgive me? *gets on knees and starts begging* So, what have I missed? It's good to see Kallista back :) if you don't mind me asking, what happened?

So, back to the title.

Well, my little sister got the lead role in the Junior School play. I swear she understudied Every. Bloody. Part. I now know all the songs and can quote half of the play. I am NOT a happy bunny. In the end though, it was a pretty good play considering it was performed by 5-8 year olds.

I've been at sleepovers for the past to weekends, so I'm gonna start with last weekend. Me and my friend (let's call her Jess (I don't know a Jess)) decided that we needed to watch all the old Disney movies, except we only had the on video. Jess has a VCR player so I went to her place and we had a Disney marathon. We watched The Lion King, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Anastasia, The Hunchback of Notre Dame Peter Pan and Winnie the Pooh :P I fell asleep half way through The Hunchback of Notre Dame (about 10:30pm) and woke up again at 1am-ish, Jess was asleep so I started playing on her iPad. Than at about 4am Jess suddenly goes "What are you playing?" it scared the bejeebers out of me! So I said "How long have you been awake?"
"About an hour, I've been watching you" Stalker much?! See, my friends are lunatics...
Anywho, we watched another movie and fell back asleep then woke up again at about 8:30am. After breakfast we watched another movie then made BROWNIES! They were VERY yummy. Eventually I had to go home, but I had an epic time :D

So this weekend was (still is) long weekend. I was supposed to be going down the coast with my friend (lets call her Leah (i dont know a Leah either)) and her family but that got cancelled so instead, my mum, my sister and me were invited to their house for dinner and I slept over. We had an AWESOME time. We stayed up really late watching movies. We watched Tomorrow When The War Began (AMAZING movie) and Tinkerbell 2&3 (I'm such a little kid at heart :P ). I think we fell asleep at about 4am-ish. The next morning we got dressed and stuff then headed into town :) Mum had given me $50 (I know, I was shocked too) so I've been wanting a Trilby Hat for AGES, there 2 reasons for this, the first one is that in the book 'Gingersnaps' by Cathy Cassidy, the REAlLY cute (well in my imagination) musical and slightly weird guy where's one and they are so cool!. Second reason, Connor in Primeval sometimes wears one and he is so cool and still slightly geeky :P So, I bought a Trilby Hat :D In the title I say Fingerless gloves, I say that because I was wearing my awesome rock chick Fingerless gloves and mis matched converse :P A bit later, me and Leah went to the cinema, we had a great time :P.

Oh, I almost forgot! I bought a Nerf Gun!!! WOOT! It's quite small and slightly pathetic but it's a Nerf Gun non the less :DDD

Anyway, I shall not bore you any longer, must go. Hope you are all well :P the was something else I was going to say but I've forgotten so I'll let you know IF I remember :P

Love and laughs,
Jaffa xx

Anyway, must be going now
